This Matsuoka M20 Classical Guitar was made on an autumn day in Japan, precisely on Thursday 03/11/1983.
For some reason, the M20 remains one of my all-time favorites. It's loud, clear and it sings in the upper register.
It was originally being sold for 20,000 yen when the yearly average income of a college graduate was about $110,000 yen which is about 10 weeks' wage.

The M20 was part of the Concert series and was handmade by Ryoji Matsuoka and his family in Nagoya. It was made for the domestic market and that why there are so few on the market.

Back & Sides: Rosewood “double-plates”
“Laminated” is not a suitable word for Japanese made guitars. These "laminates" were made from 2 layers of solid wood glued together with natural resins. The Japanese perfected this technique so well these double-plates were as good as solid woods and far more resistant to cracking.
Neck: Mahogany
Fingerboard: Ebony
Nut width: 52mm
Scale: 650 mm
The action is set to 3.50 mm under E6 and 3.00 mm under E1, with some extra room left on the saddle.
