The wonderful Takamine No.5 was made in Japan in 1990.
It is loud, resonant and has an open tone. With clear deep basses, and bell-like trebles. it truly is a concert guitar.
I have spent a lot of time working on this guitar to enhance it and make it sound like a $10,000 guitar.
I have scalloped the braces and tuned the solid cedar top to the note of A.
The major difference between the 1990 No.5s and the later No.5s is the grade of wood used. In fact one of the main features you can spot right away is the fretboard. The 1980s and 1990s fretboards are made out of ebony, while 2000 onward of rosewood. The other noticeable difference is the quality of the top. The older versions have straighter and finer wood grains.
