The APX500 is probably the most popular semiacoustic guitar in the world.
It's affordable and it's the best bang for the bucks.
I get to modify quite a few of these for my customers, especially for acoustic guitar players who want the warmth of the nylon strings but keeping the action and the neck width of an acoustic guitar.
These are also popular with young players and people with small hands.
The conversion involves more than just putting nylon strings on an acoustic guitar.
- I modify the braces so that the top is more responsive to nylon strings.
- I raise the bridge from 2.5mm to about 3.25mm.
- I make a new bone nut and cut the string slots equivalent to a 45mm nut (an extra 2mm wider than the standard 43mm). This widens the string spacing to about 1.5mm across the 6 strings making it more comfortable and easier to play.
- I set up the action to about 3.0-3.25mm on the 6th string at 12th fret, and 2.5-2.75mm on the first string at 12th fret.
The result is quite good and totally worth it especially when there is nothing like it on the market.
This is a pre-owned demo guitar that I keep to let customers see and hear how their APX500 will sound like once modified.
It's in great condition. Please refer to the photos.
